Here's the inspiration to the
music:
hardnose d
We decided to write a rap tune. As the bassist, I thought a simple 4
note line would do well and let the lyrical melody drive the song. Hence, there
it was. The name of the song came from hours of Sega Genesis Madden Football.
Bob & I were at battle and a reference was made to the hardnosed defense Bob
implemented. It wouldn't relinquish a yard. Inspired, I wrote
these
lyrics. The magic happened when Bob imported lyrics from a song he wrote with
another band and it worked perfectly. Along with awesome guitar work, this tune
has become a hallowed classic.

jalapeno
Being from the Chicago land area, I went to visit a friend and see a concert
on Navy Pier. It was sponsored by Sam Adams and their beers were a dollar. I had
quite a few. In a haze I decided to hit the nacho cart. The jalapenos looked
awesome and I asked for extra. Amongst a sea of these hot peppers, I ate the
whole plate. After arriving back at my buddy's house, I realized there was a
problem. I literally had what I consider to be a near-death experience on his
toilet. Details can be surmised from the lyrics. Please check our
lyrics page. I wrote the
lyrics and bassline and must admit the guitar work Bob laid down was tits.
- Mike
traffic tampon
Quite simply a traffic tampon is someone in a party environment where a bowl is
being passed around, hangs onto it and prattles on about some stupid shit.
Everybody is waiting to hit this thing but cannot. The frustration of this
occurrence spawned this tune. The bassline was very much inspired by RUSH, but
took on its own stamp. Bob's lyrics were on the spot and dead to rites and Dan's
lead guitar made it complete.
- Mike
energy of sobriety
I conjured up the verse riff and while Dan and I were working on the
music at his apartment, GTE, (his landline carrier), kept making collection
calls. This was a pain in the ass. We originally named this song "GTE"
The rename of this tune came from a jam session where we were all too broke to
afford beer and had no other altering substances available to us. I remember
playing and jumping up and down into a sweaty stupor, everyone else included. We
discussed the "energy of sobriety" and it stuck.
Lyrically, two stories must be told:
1) While a Purdue student, I worked at a Days Inn hotel as the Maintenance
Tech. My girlfriend stopped by the Shop and we partook in a little herbage. My
responsibility also consisted of maintaining the pool. This particular evening
it was my duty to back flush the pool's sand filters. After setting the flush
and being high I went Home. Oops if the next morning 70,000 gallons of water was
missing. The pool was empty. I re-filed the pool and it took two days to get it
sanitary.
2) Bob and I met at our College job working at AutoZone slinging Parts. We often
would perform our duties high. This wasn't a problem until "Truck Night" It's
2am and you are stocking Auto Parts. A manager approaches you to go out back and
smoke a J. Well obviously we did. About this time I had found another job and
put in my resignation. As it turns out, a massive political conundrum and
investigation followed. Bob was terminated days after I quit.
P.S. ask us, we are freeze plug experts, lol.

boulevard
Interesting song. I came up with a groovy verse bass line. Bob followed
that with inspired lyrics of our time as field sales reps and a cool chorus. I
decided to implement a reggae line on the chorus and there you have it. Bob's
use of metaphors and excellent guitar work made this song a classic.
- Mike
responsibility
This song was written around Dan detuning to B. He came up with the
initial riff and the song grew. Bob's lyrics were a testament to our collective
buzzdome and background clamoring of life's duties calling. This is the very
first song where we used a 4 track and overdubbed after recording live. Dan's
guitar licks made the song. Also Bob overdubbed some of the vocals and it was
awesome. In the future I plan to re-dub the bass line to make the song complete.

unyoung (a.k.a. Onions)
Well I guess it's time to impart to you that during some of our songwriting, LSD
was a major influence. We decided to trip and jam on this evening. Inspired and
hallucinating, I crafted this bass line. I called it Onions, because at the time
I hated that vegetable. Fortunately Bob wrote stellar lyrics and Dan's guitar
licks were awesome. The song was later renamed to "Unyoung" to suit the lyrics .
This has become our most requested song.

This was an experiment with Adobe Audition & my computer. I wrote this
on my balcony in Greensboro, North Carolina - recorded 7 guitar tracks and there
you have it.

Dan
b.o.w.
Acronym for Bag of Weed. I originally wrote the bassline for
chemical imbalance,
a song about my then girlfriend. My
lyrics didn't bode well and Bob sung a much
better rendition during a jam session.

rolls on communities
As stated above, LSD was a big influence. As a band we were hanging out with
some dude we met at a bar. We were tripping big time and this dude tells us that
he'd like to pull out a gun and roll on this whole apartment community, as in
shoot everybody. Holy shit, ok. At our next jam, I came up with a new bass line
and Bob created lyrics and a vocal melody on the spot. Dan's funky guitar made
the song a very popular one.

numb
This was the very first song I ever wrote. A couple weeks after
acquiring my bass I played it incessantly and was hanging out with another
guitar player buddy of mine. While farting around with the verse riff, he perked
up and said keep it.
I was scrawling out lyrics one night at work when Bob stopped by. I was writing
about weed and its effects on my psyche. Bob laughed about the blasted reference
and helped me write a chorus, both lyrically and musically. At this point Bob
always sung on our songs and I thought I might take a stab at vocals. I never
realized just how hard it is to sing a different rhythm and melody from what I
was playing. The end result is that I'm not a singer, but am proud of what came
to pass from this tune.

indy cop
While learning Funk and slap / pop, I came up with this bassline. It was
originally introduced at the PH & Bonedog sessions. The song's name came from a
then current scandal at the Indianapolis Police Dept. I hate cops, and it just
so happens that everyone I've ever played with does as well. Bob, Jeff, and I
laid this down at our very first practice. I never expected the song to go 12
minutes plus, but - there you have it. :-)

chumley
This song was built around Dan's awesome guitar riff. Chumley is a nickname I
gave one of my best college buddies named Shawn. He helped me get back
into the game after a 2.5 year relationship failed. I was listless and
borderline nutz. I've still never seen anyone generate the magic he did. One
example: We go to a bar at Purdue and he leans to me and says "Oh shit, she's
here". The aforementioned broad was a tryst for him and he never called after he
fucked her. She sees him and comes over. She is yelling at him about what an
asshole he is, yadda yadda. They go off in a corner and after about 10 minutes
he has her laughing and touching his arm. 30 minutes later, he leaves with her
and waves goodbye to me. Ya, he did her again. Amazing. The best game I have
ever seen.
This song is named after him, but the chorus is about Bob's tenure cooking at an
Italian restaurant. We're weird, yes.

epiphany
During the PH Revival sessions with Jeff, all 2 of them, Bob springs this gnarly
guitar riff on us. I followed the best I could. The tune was never officially
named but I found it in the archives and named it 'epiphany' because the music
sounds introspective; to me at least. Another great one-time take.
-Mike
pride-jealous-denial
This is another cool Bob generated guitar riff. This one has been around awhile.
We chipped away at it as the original PH, but never recorded it until the PH
Revival sessions with Jeff. There is a super cool chorus riff that isn't present
in the recording here but I am still looking for it.

One of my favorite songs ever. A one-time take during sound check. Not bad for
zero practice.

I wrote this after hearing my buddy Bob had a child, hence the name. I recorded
it live with one mic and pedal effects. I hope to one day add drums.

the crack
song
Actually this is a Bonedog tune. When I met the guys, long before I played, I
joked about crack.
